11 John Bostock Memorial Challenge at Christmastime
Those of us who live in and around Brisbane know John and Rita Bostok well. John was always very generous towards our organisation, cutting wood for our members for many years as well as badges for our Christmas luncheons and pieces for our Brush-in-a-Rush projects.
Sadly, in 2008 John lost his battle with illness and is greatly missed by our members.
On his passing, our committee agreed that we would like to do something to honour John and his dedication to the folk art community and so, in discussion with his wife Rita, it was decided to hold The John Bostock Memorial Challenge each year at Christmastime in memory of our friend.
2009 John Bostock Memorial Challenge & Christmas Lunch
DATE : 28 Nov 2009
VENUE : 433 Logan Road, Mt Gravatt, QLD
The 2009 winner of The John Bostock Memorial Challenge, chosen by John’s wife Rita, was Penny Morgan who painted a lovely Santa plaque.
Our Christmas lunch was as always, an enjoyable afternoon of good food and good friends.
Another highlight of the day was a very generous donation - from Spotlight, Mt Gravatt – of an Elna sewing machine which was given as a prize. Jean Peterson was the lucky winner, and ecstatic at her good fortune!
2008 John Bostock Memorial Challenge & Christmas Lunch
DATE : 6 Dec 2008
VENUE : Greenslopes Bowls Club
Rita Bostock was invited to judge The John Bostock Memorial Challenge (not an easy task given the large number of high standard entries) and finally chose this beautiful piece painted by Lindy Clarkson, making her our 2008 winner.
After the general meeting members sat down to enjoy a delicious Christmas lunch. A relaxing afternoon was enjoyed by all, catching up with old friends (or making new ones) around a delicious buffet.
2007 Christmas Lunch
DATE : 2 Dec 2007
VENUE : Greenslopes Bowls Club
The 2007 Christmas lunch was enjoyed by 27 members and thanks to the work of our multi-talented Judi Beggs, all received a lovely handpainted snowman name badge, as well as a cooler bag compliments of the DFAQ. Ann Hilberts travelled from Port Macquarie to join us, together with her sister Carol Laurence from Nerang – great to see them. Also from out of town was Sue Nelson who made the journey from Lismore Heights to be with us – good time catching up and hearing tales of her travel teaching around the countryside. The ladies and one gentleman enjoyed a buffet lunch of seafood, roast meat & veges, plus a delicious selection of cold meats and salads topped off with yummy Christmas pud and ice cream. The winner of the raffle for the Ken Harris oil painting was a lady from Newmarket, who was on holidays in Bundaberg when we contacted her. The painting was delivered on her return to Brisbane.
